French term

remaillage

French to English Tech/Engineering Textiles / Clothing / Fashion CAD tools
In the context of pattern-making, a question is being asked:

Le modéliste utilise-t-il la fonction "remaillage"?

There is not really much other context, except that the pattern designer uses this function on the software of the CAD tool. I don't know if it relates to "mesh" - I found "overlocking" as a translation but I'm not sure that the pattern-designer is involved in the sewing portion. Thank you.

I just saw a "Fruit of the Loom" television advertisement using CAD meshing! I looked for it on YouTube, but did not see it yet. Here's a mention of Fruit of the Loom and CAD for garment patterns http://news.cnet.com/CAD-software-is-the-new-black/2100-1012...

I don't know, I think it's for different kinds of fabric because they talk about using this program on fabrics from a fabric library. At one point they talk about woven fabric. I'm wondering, since "remaillage" was in quotes, whether it is "re-mesh" and the quotes were to show that it was a translation of a foreign word. I see that from the links Travelin Ann gave, re-mesh is used in relation to CAD software. Thank you both for your input.

What kind of fabric is this for? Are we talking woven or knitted here?

I suspect this may be the same ref you found: http://www.comsol.dk/community/forums/general/thread/4964/ regarding re-meshing. But, the language is not native speaker, so I am reluctant to rely upon it. I think you may need the expertise of someone who is CAD proficient. I have seen it - a grid shaped like a face, for example, before building a face upon it - but I am not a CAD expert, to know what the tool is called within the program.
Do you know the precise software? Can you google the software name to find a list of its properties, perhaps?//http://www.springerlink.com/content/w71nmul030530423/
A further ref, mentioning "re-meshing."//
And another, which explains maillage in detail. Warning - large PDF file:

Méthode qui, en général, réunit deux tricots en rassemblant deux rangées de mailles sur une remailleuse.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Alison Sabedoria (X) : Yes, when assembling two sections of knitted fabric, but it's the context of pattern making that makes it difficult to be sure.
