'it not only provides a longer sleep duration, but also a better quality of life'

Explanation:
Hi Susana,

I would translate the complete sentence as 'it not only provides a longer sleep duration, but also a better quality of life'
An example can be found on the following website http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16895254

I hope that helps,

All the best,

Adriana

‘Not only’ can be perfectly moved to the beginning of a clause (before the verb), in order to emphasize an idea. This is certainly grammatically correct.

Examples:

“Unlike previous researchers Drs Swift and Boliver not only compared the social mobility of children who attended comprehensives with those from grammar schools, but also included secondary modern schools in their analysis. They looked at children from all social backgrounds, rather than just those from working- class or low-income families, and they compared children of similar measured ability at age 11.” Oxford University website

“ Garner makes grammar fun, and readers will not only find elucidation but also moments of pure delight while browsing these pages. As always, the entries are not only filled with clear lessons about language usage, trends, and problems inherent in misuse, but they are also peppered with cleverly chosen examples of both usage and misusage. [Garner's] book is the best of its kind in that it simply reports the facts in an engaging way; language evolves and usage changes. An invaluable ready-reference tool." School Library Journal

Review found on Oxford University Press website http://www.oup.com/us/catalog/general/subject/Reference/Engl...

Notes to answerer
Asker: the texts says: "Se debe tener en cuenta además que con el tratamiento exitoso de la apnea del sueño, no solamente se logra una mayor longevidad, sino que además se brinda una mejor calidad de vida" The term longevidad refers to longer life, not sleep. Thank you

14 mins

neutral  Jaime Hyland: it's not a complete sentence, and as such, it's not translatable with any certainty.
6 hrs

neutral  Muriel Vasconcellos: Your 'not only' is in the wrong place, grammatically speaking. If it's in the front, then you have to have a complete sentence in second part, which in this case means that you have to repeat the subject and add another verb. See any style manual.
6 hrs

neutral  Jennifer White: Muriel V is right. "Not only" should follow "provides" (because it provides both). Your references are correct of course.
