Italian term

materiale informatico

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Computers (general) IT support services
I have a list of duties to be performed by an on-site IT support service, including
a) First-level technical support to users such as ...........
b) Gestione **materiale informatico**, incluso relativo inventario;
c) Cloning desktops and laptops (Windows and Mac environments);
d) Distributing software licences;
e) Configuring and maintenance of software on desktops, laptops, notebooks,,,,

Materiale informatico seems such an all-embracing term - I have seen it used both to describe hardware only and to mean HW-SW. In this case I don't know which it means - does 'inventario' give a clue it's Hardware only, or do companies keep inventories of the software installed on all devices ?
(apologies if question seems absurd to experts - but for the ignorant end user........any help is much appreciated!)

IT material

IT is the standard translation for "informatico".
In answer to your questions, all companies keep an inventory of everything that they buy, so of course they must keep an inventory of the software that they buy and all the user licenses for it that they buy, which means every programme on every computers. It is the job of the IT admin office.

Careful not to add and "s" to "material" which would then become ambiguous with materials used in IT manufacturing processes.
Note from asker:
Thanks for that very clear explanation, Jim. I was afraid IT material might sound too vague, but after all that's what the Italian says too!
Thanks for further note - don't worry, I wouldn't mix my material with my materiEl (when I worked for a US computer company some decades ago, hardware stuff was spelt materiEl with an e... dunno if that stayed through the company's various name changes, but I learnt early on that generic materiAl was different from what the MateriEl manager handled!

data processing material

This should cover it all

hardware and software

Why not "hardware and software"
Note from asker:
Thanks, Cameron. The 'why not' is because I'm not sure whether it does definitely mean both.... in the end I think the literal and all-embracing IT material will be the best bet.
