The crop cycle is the total time it takes a crop to mature from the time you plant to the time you reap. It involves all the different care at different ages of the plants. For example if the crop cycle of rice is 180 days you first have to plough the land, irrigate it, plant the seedlings, transplant the seedlings, add fertilizers at a certain time, drain the water at a certain stage, harvest the rice when fully ready, separate the grains from the chaff etc.

The main strategies are: pre-flood cultivation (so farmers can harvest before the floods); cropping with floods (crops which grow well even in floods); and post-flood cultivation (planting late varieties or those which withstand waterlogging).
