Persian (Farsi) to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Colloquial Dialogue

The sentence:
خيلي غليظه ﴿دل آدمو مي‌زنه﴾

The context: this refers to overconcentrated fruit syrup.

I’ve managed to discover that دل آدمو مي‌زنه refers to the effect of something which is too sweet for the palate – is this right?

So, perhaps, “cloying”? Unfortunately this is rather old-fashioned now, and the Persian seems highly modern and colloquial.
