Portuguese term

Wage garnishment

Portuguese to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
Wage garnishment is the US is when you owe tax money to the government, or you owe a lot of money in student loans, and the government actually goes into your paycheck and takes money out every week or every month.

What would be the equivalent in Portuguese?

Desconto em folha is when the instruction to make the discount is made by the accountholder. Consignação em folha is a hostile third party inspired court order.
Note from asker:
Hi Mark - thanks for the help. I saw a similar term which was "desconto em folha". It seems to me that this refers to money being taken from your paycheck by non-govermental entities like repayment of payroll loans... is there a difference between "consignação em folha" and "desconto em folha"???
