Danish term

bindebånd

Danish to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Women's wear
Cardigan med knapper, hægter eller bindebånd.

Is 'bindebånd' really called 'tie string'?

I've found this in a couple of dictionaries and by googling, but I'm a bit on wobbly ground here, so help would be very much appreciated.

Well, now I never... Thanks David... And it's fine by me, if you want to be shakier than me. Knock yourself out. ;D)
David Young (X) Oct 24, 2012:
Looks like it I'm probably on shakier ground than you, Gitte (not that I want to get competitive about it) but my enquiries indicate, "tie string", "string tie" or simply "tie", depending on design/brand.

waist tie

Most of the pictures I have found correspond to teh pictures you get for cardigan with waist tie.

You may have a problem if it is not strictly at the waist....
This one calls it an empire tie waist.

You might just have a tie at the neck too, either a with a low Vee neck or on a blouse rather than a cardigan that was open all the way down.

I would go for a tie of some kind.

Not that it helps you here, but if it does tie at the back, I would call it a sash...
Like the ones on little girls' party dresses.

Tie fastening might work.
Buttons, hooks or tie fastening
Note from asker:
Thanks Christine - Unfortunately, my text doesn't specify where the cardigan is tied, it might be at the waist, but equally well at the top or at the side or even on the back for all I know (not so likely, I admit :D ).
Thanks again, Christine, tie fastening might work. :D
Something went wrong...
