Creo que se refiere a que la cinta marca o especifica uno o los limites.

Thank you!, I had a discussion with a colleague stating that it was "up to" instead of "until", but you can never win against a woman...even if you are right

In my experience, these kind of texts are like that. In spannish they sort of make sense, but in english you have to do some magic.

When I saw "cinta" in this context, I thought of a "cinta asfàltica" bodered by walls, but it is really just a guess.

It looks like a crude way of saying that the volume is determined by the length x width x height (of tape)
