Discussion

Carol Gullidge Jan 31, 2013:
haunting I like this for the Marx example, but not totally convinced it works so well for the term in question. Again, fuller context is needed
fionn Jan 31, 2013:
haunting Indeed, much more context is required. However if you think there is an intentional connection with the usage that mentions Marx, then the word is 'haunt', as used in the Communist Manifesto ("a spectre is haunting Europe"). It may be the case as there is not a good verb for 'to haunt' in Spanish...
crinolina (asker) Jan 31, 2013:
It's a current article. Another example in which recorre is used in the same sense is "el fantasma de Karl Marx RECORRE Europa".

Thanks everyone for your help and hints.
Yvette Neisser Moreno Jan 31, 2013:
Definitely more context needed! Not just the surrounding text, but information about the work in which this appears--name of book, author, country, time period, etc.
Lisa McCarthy Jan 31, 2013:
@ crinolina Can you please provide more context - the paragraph or sentence the term appears in. What does the 'amenaza' refer to?

is spreading throughout

Without the necessary contextual information, this is my best guess: "the threat is spreading throughout the country"
Peer comment(s):

agree Eliza Ariadni Kalfa : Agree. In the other sentence about the ghost of Karl Marx I would just use "is haunting Europe"

or pervades throughout.

But without yet more context, this is little more than a guess, hence the CR of 3

is making itself felt

The threat is making itself felt throughout the country / the whole country over (slightly poetic) etc
