queste superfici di forma rettangolare sono state ottenute calcolando la superficie con un lato pari alla profondita del transetto ossia dalla linea di costa verso il retroduna.
the author is talking about how she defined the exact area she conducted her research in. In this case I am not sure if this "transept" (transetto) is a physical tool or a virtual line? Can anyone make sense of this?
I am leaning towards this being some physical marker because later she writes "I transetti posti perpendicolarmente alla linea di costa ..." The whole description, though, is very unclear and disorganized, so I am questioning how to best translate it...

In reply to your question below, I think it would be wrong to use the word "marker", though the transects would presumably be marked. It wouldn't work in "profondità del transetto", for example.

Note from asker:
I was also thinking "sampling plot marker" because she talks about actually placing these objects at 5 meter intervals, making it seem like the "transetto" is the marker rather than the land strip. What do you think? |
