It's common to change SAs to SLs, usually when they are taken over. The point here is that public company has too many misleading connotations as a translation for sociedad anonima, the oldest and best translation is still 'joint stock company', many of which are in the definition of many legal systems actually private companies.

This is a common but not universal definition of public company. In the UK plc means public limited company but I have a friend who owns one and it does not meet this definition, which is why I say avoid it.

| I went with "formed as a joint stock company". I tried to edit the glossary entry to "in the form of/formed as a joint stock company" but for some reason it didn't (and never does) show the change. Thanks, Bill! |

Tal y como entiendo el párrafo, la sociedad se constituyó "bajo la forma de anónima", es decir, como sociedad anónima, y posteriormente fue transformada en sociedad de responsabilidad limitada.
