English to Norwegian Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering

I'm basically lloking for an appropriate way to word this term in Norwegian. It is from an 'argument' relating to a delayed design, where one side claims that a perfectly valid design was changed due to the client preferring it to be done a different way i.e. there was nothing wrong with the original design, but personal preference was the client's basis for changing it.

I am struggling to convey this idea that something valid was changed due to personal preference. I have tried a few combinations of words but can't get it to sound right.
