Italian term

e se questa storia

Italian to English Art/Literary
... e se questa storia fosse una canzone mia nel finale non ti lascerei andare via
(scrive il cantautore riferendosi alla sua storia con una tipa)

esiste una parola o perifrasi in inglese per rendere il termine "storia"? (inteso, ovviamente, in termini sessuali/sentimentali)

maybe "relationship" and or "affair" do not strike ad hoc

any (possibly UK English) slang options?

thanks in advance

what's wrong with "story"?

I assume that there is a story before this phrase. IMHO, relationship sounds awkward, fling implies a casual relationship, and you don't really say the "the adventure of my life" if you mean "the story of my life".

disagree manducci: We don\'t say \" I\'m having/had a \"story\" with someone in English

I have to agree with you. Most people would not say “I had a story”, they would say we/they had a story. I wouldn’t say that I am having a story, but I wouldn’t tell the church members that I am having an affair with their pastor either (or at least for as long as I want him to keep his job). However, they do enjoy hearing our story – they find it very romantic :-)

fling

Fling e' usato in USA per definire relazioni sentimentali brevi e appassionate
Peer comment(s):

neutral giogi : this is just a short and not importans sexual relationship

neutral Ivana UK : non e` solo usato negli USA ma anche in Gran Bretagna. Sono d'accordo con Giovanna, che sigifica una "storietta cosi`" anziche` una storia importante

love affair/fling/love relationship

Dipende dal significato e importanza che si vuole dare al termine Storia:

love affair-si associa spesso ad una storia di tradimento
fling- una storia di poco rilievo, breve
love relashionship- una rapporto importante

if this romance/affaire/amour

It's a tricky one as there aren't many slang nouns to describe a relationship of this kind - fling is the only one as far as I know, and the problem with "fling" is that it describes a very brief relationship and one that you know isn't going to lead to anything long term. Two of my suggestions are French terms used in English.

There are more slang verbs: to play around/fool around/carry on with etc

Peer comment(s):

agree Ivana UK : romance

Yes, I'd go for "romance", my other suggestions are a bit dated.
