My reference wasn't the best one to choose, because this is not about separating gold and pyrite in water - it's an industrial process using chemicals. But I still believe mine to be the correct translation - try Googling "pyrite flotation".

floated pyrite

"Several different minerals can be confused with gold, although pyrite and mica are the most common culprits. Pyrite, also known as Fool’s Gold, is a golden, shiny mineral that is beautiful in its own right, though not valuable.

"As you hunt for gold, learning to differentiate these three minerals (gold, pyrite and mica) will save you from the disappointment that comes when you realize your gold nugget isn’t actually gold. Here are questions to help you better identify your prospecting finds.

Does it float?

Gold doesn’t float. If your specimen floats to the top of your gold pan when panning, it is probably a different mineral, maybe mica."

float pyrite

These are pyrite inclusions in gem stones. It has nothing to do with the flotation process of recovering minerals.
And BTW, pyrite does not float in the gold panning process. It has a specific gravity of around 5.0; to float it would have to be less than 1. However , the pan washing, because it is lighter than gold, it will wash out before the gold. However, if the pyrite is the heaviest mineral in the bunch, it will be the last man standing, leading the prospector to surmise he has struck it rich.
Other tests are needed.

To make minerals float in the commercial flotation process, various chemicals, including surfactant (detergents) have to be added to the water causing air injected bubbles to adhere to the mineral particles, thus making them float.
