Catalan term

a quatre vents

Catalan to English Tech/Engineering Architecture
In a description of a building. "....amb finestres a quatre vents".

I have come across this term used for a "detached" house before, but that does not appear to be the case here. Anyone know the technical term for this?

That's a great solution!

360º Views I went with 360º views as it specifically mentions windows.
Rachael West Dec 20, 2013:
Definitely it would usually refer to a building without anything attached to any of its sides! I'm sure of that. But perhaps as it says "amb finestres a quatre vents" and not just "a quatre vents", they mean it has windows on all 4 walls… which perhaps is still possible while being attached to another house if perhaps the attached house is lower down that one of the windows (ie. a row of houses on a hill, making the attached house slightly lower down). I would suggest you ask, to be sure though, because in English it would not then be considered detached.

facing the four compass/cardinal points/directions

My paper edition of the Gran Larousse Català has:

'Punt cardinal - Els quatre vents'

I would the house has windows facing north, south, west and east.

Many houses are not built directly facing these main points of the compass, so observe how the light changes throughout the day in your rooms, and remember that sky conditions vary constantly, affecting the quality of daylight that reaches your home.
