Catalan term

edificis pantalla

Catalan to English Tech/Engineering Architecture Urban Planning
This is from an Urban Planning history text.

The context is a caption for an aerial photo of the Besòs district dominated by a line of tower blocks running alongside a main trunk road (lower reaches of the Gran Via).

"Es distingeixen els ***edificis pantalla** aixecats a la vora de la Gran Via, fragments inconnexos d’illes canòniques d’eixample, ordenacions extensives de l’illa per a activitats industrials i fins i tot rengles de cases associats a l’ordenació del regadiu anterior."

I take it he is using this expression to imply that these buildings screen off the motorway from the surrounding area. But is there a term for that in English, or should I just explain it, as I have done here?
Proposed translations (English)

Discussion

Peter Guest Jun 19, 2014:
suppose so you might put something like solid walls of tower blocks. But those buildings block off everything. You can only see as far as them from the road, hence the screen.
Berni Armstrong (asker) Jun 19, 2014:
Could it simply be Tower Blocks? Later on in the book, there is another photo caption which mentions the term, but here it just shows the first high-rise tower blocks at Bellvitge (surrounded by fields) so they are not screening off anything.
