Portuguese to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature / historical archive, bibliographic reference
Portuguese term or phrase: banco
Hi all

this is in a footnote citing the source of information (in this case a historical archive). It is referred to here:

Ocorrências numerosas em Arquivo Histórico da X, Série D, banco 8, livros 3 e 4

could this be 'stacks' or something similar? Or could it be a reference to a database? All help appreciated.

bank or bankers box

Explanation:
Two options spring to mind depending on how the archives are being stored:

1) On a shelf - use the term bank e.g. Series D, Bank 8, Books 3 & 4.
A synonym of shelf is bank and I have seen the term used in archival systems before.

2) In a cardboard box or similar - use the term bankers box.
A bankers box is a common term in offices for those large cardboard or similar storage boxes, themselves stored on shelves or stacked up on the floor.

See the links for reference.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi John - I think your answer is very likely the right one (bank rather than bankers box here), but I'm leaving the question open for a little while to see if that can be confirmed. Thanks for the input.
