This is from a text about current design from Argentina
Is it simply fake leather? Or environmentally-friendly leather (does not harm teh environment by killing animals or using toxins in the production process? Do we have a specific term for this in English?
Thanks!!

eco-leather
That is what they call it nowadays. Yes, it is fake leather.
(I call it "plastic", though).

composition leather
In Italian this is ecopelle. In English, see web references below.
If you need further detail about types of composition leather see the glossary ref.

"The fibres of off-cuts and trimmings from wet blue waste leather are recycled and used to create more ecologically sound forms of leather like composition leather. The process of making composition leather is eco-friendly as it recycles waste leather that is normally sent to landfill and uses just water alone (rather than resins and glues unlike bonded leather) to bind the fibres together. The fibres are combined with a high-tensile textile core and sealed to maintain strength and durability. "

eco-tanned leather
yes, it is real leather but just tanned in a more environmentally friendly way using mimosa rather than chemicals.

Of course it can be just called:
"eco-leather"
but I wanted to distinguish my answer from Monica since she is saying it's fake leather and I'm saying the opposite:-)

I just checked some sites for rgenitan and it seems Monika is right and that "ecocuero" is basically imitation leather. Imitation or synthetic leather would NEVER be called Eco-leather in English as this would be completely misleading. I think you need to check wityh your client as to whether this is imitation or eco leather as there is a big difference between the two.

: The last line in your reference convinces me: '...we label it as eco leather as it is still tanned organically and free from chemicals.'
