what does 話題 means in this dialogue?

- 話題は終わったの？
- もうぱっちりですよ！いやでも、今回はけっこうやばかったですけどね！大体二つを同時に提出なんてありえないですよ！
- それは提出をサボッテたお前だけだ

A school essay, maybe? Or some kind of homework in general? I only find the general "thema", "subject" as meanings...

My attemps:
- Did you finish your essays/homework?
- Yeah, everything's fine now! But I have to say it's been quite hard, this time. Having two due at the same time is impossibile, after all.
- You're the only one who had to do that, since you skipped school at due date.
