Dutch term

herschikken

Dutch to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
Daar ben ik weer met mijn leningdelen. . .

Discussion

Emma Rault (X) (asker) Aug 30, 2015:
Use of the verb here sounds off to me. Loan composition, possibly, but again the question is: what does this term encompass, and: is it the same thing as "herschikken"?

This ref http://jeff-for-banks.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/de-novo-banks-o... suggests that "loan composition" = the different parts making up a loan
But the use of the term here http://csbcorrespondent.com/blog/what-loan-better-your-bank-... suggests it's the full spectrum of terms and conditions: "The above is a clear example of how structure plays in to pricing. Covenants, interest only features, tenant composition, lease composition, prepayment penalties and other aspects of a loan’s composition all play into a bank’s overall risk."
Kitty Brussaard Aug 30, 2015:
Adjust the loan composition? Or perhaps: compose the loan differently? Plese feel free to correct me if this is not idiomatic English :-).
PS. You could also add a modifier like original/initial/proposed to loan / loan composition.
Emma Rault (X) (asker) Aug 30, 2015:

Elders in mijn brontekst staat:

leningdelen > loan components / components of the loan
samenstelling van de lening > loan composition / composition of the loan
herschikken > adjust the composition of the loan??

Loan components
Your loan may consist of various parts. We refer to them as loan components.
(...)
The characteristics of a loan component are the mortgage type, the interest rate type, the term and the fixed-rate period you have agreed with the bank. Your
mortgage can therefore consist of various interest rate types, mortgage types, loan terms or fixed-rate periods.
Different conditions may apply to each loan component.
The loan offer sets out what conditions apply to each loan component.

You may be unable to transfer the total amount or the composition of your old mortgage to your new mortgage because this would be contrary to legislation,
secondary legislation, the Mortgage Finance Code of Conduct or a particular policy of the bank applicable at any time.

The Dutch mortgage market is the second largest mortgage market in Europe, after the UK. The stable government policy is aimed at stimulating home ownership by consumers and it is fiscally attractive to finance a home purchase with borrowed money in the Netherlands. Consumers can get tax relief on the mortgage interest paid. The favourable conditions are now limited to the first owned home (being the primary residence) and for a maximum period of 30 years. Interest-only loan components and high loan-to-foreclosure values offer consumers optimal tax incentives. The interest-only mortgage accounts for half of all mortgages in the Netherlands. And so-called “top mortgages,” those for 125 per cent of the liquidation value of the property, are often the rule rather than an exception for consumers entering the market.

@Emma: regarding your last entry in the D-box (to which I somehow cannot add anything anymore, probably because the question has already been closed), here's what I think.

In your first link, the term composition - which I suggested as a possible translation for samenstelling - actually seems to be used to refer to the composition of (a bank's) total loan portfolio.

In your second link, the term structure seems to be used with a meaning that comes close to what is meant with samenstelling van de lening in your context.

Therefore, using structure (the loan) differently for (de lening) anders samenstellen might not be such a bad idea after all :-)
Note from asker:
That would work. My source text also goes on to talk about "de lening herschikken", but I don't think there's any verb that can let me get away with leaving out the "loan parts" in English. . .

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Went with "redistirbuting the loan parts". Still debating whether to change to "loan components", I will rap on that for a while over coffee + a pastry. :-)"

Note from asker:
I don't think that's right. There is no mention of bringing in additional funds, and my source text specifically states that the total outstanding amount will not change.

renegotiating (the terms and/or conditions of) the loan

circumscription appears to be the best way to describe. Recasting may be correct, but I have never heard it being used.
Note from asker:
I don't think being vague is going to get me there, as the explanation of the term in the source text specifically states it's about 'redividing the pie chart', as it were, but *not* about getting a bigger pie.
