(Gen.) Performer of Marriages; (BrE) Superintendent Registrar of Marriages

AMM alias Kirsty MacC in the web ref.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Anna Herbst : It is my understanding that the Superintendent Registrar does not actually officiate but rather organises the necessary paperwork before and after the marriage. Performer of marriages sounds odd to me, whereas the suggestions in the old KudoZ are all good

Thanks for your input, Anna. It doesn't look like you've ever got married in E&W. As per my marriage cert., our SRM in Southern England vs *officiant in the US* and, solemnisiing the marriage, def. officiated at my wedding (alas, to a non-Swedish girl).
neutral Cynthia Coan : Of course, terminology definitions and usage can change over time -- something that is challenging but important for us translators to keep up with.

I do try to keep up with American English, as in the answer chosen. But we should appreciate that it is hard to do so with all the regional variations in EN-speaking world. (No target specified by asker).
