Spanish term
aperturado
Spanish to English
Bus/Financial
Finance (general)
Hello all. I am working on a Mexican financial document. No matter how much I try to parse the paragraph below, I can't seem to make sense of "aperturados," since I understand that you can "aperturar" "cuentas bancarias," but not "estados de cuenta bancarios"; yet, since the participle is masculine, I don't know what else it is supposed to refer to. Any ideas? Here is the paragraph in question.

Looks like they've made it agree with "estados" when it should be "cuentas". If my grammar is correct, it should be "estados de cuentas bancarias". So the meaning is "attach statements for all non-internet bank accounts held by the taxpayer".
Note from asker:
That's about what I expected. I thought there was an grammatical error in there, so I really do appreciate your interpretation that seems right to me. Thanks! |

: "Held" is more natural sounding here than "opened".

Yes, I agree. And I assume the asker is looking for an explanation of the grammar, not lots of synonyms to choose from.

Append/Attach all bank statements (xx), issued by the financial institution that have been *opened* on behalf of the taxpayer ...
http://es.bab.la/diccionario/espanol-ingles/estado-de-cuenta...
estado de cuenta bancario {m} [cont.] (también: extracto de cuenta)
bank statement {sustantivo} [cont.]
I understand it to mean that bank statements which have an account number attached to it (and therefore, statements are issued). Yes, technically you can´t open the "bank statements".
Perhaps by turning the phrase around, and saying
"All bank statements issued by the financial institution for accounts opened on behalf of the taxpayer are to be attached/appended....".

: "Aperturar" is simply another synonym for "abrir" that has started to appear in Mexican accounting and financial documents in recent years. Saludos.

aperturar ay ay ay
Ante el empleo creciente del verbo aperturar en el lenguaje de los bancos, la Fundación del Español Urgente advierte de que es incorrecto. El término aperturar se ha formado a partir del sustantivo apertura. Sin embargo, el verbo relacionado con apertura es abrir y por eso conviene evitar aperturar ya que, como decía Fernando Lázaro Carreter: «Aperturado el camino, nada impide que lecturar sustituya a leer, baraturar a abaratar y licenciaturarse a licenciarse».
