Taña Dalglish Mar 20, 2016:
@ Katarzyna That is good news. Thank you for that. That is very similar to what Phil had suggested to begin with, don't you think? I also think that the glossary would benefit from the term. Thank you and regards.
Katarzyna Müller (asker) Mar 20, 2016:
I finally found the term. It's windscreen. "Boom shields and windscreens may help reduce drift by directing the application and reducing wind effect.' http://pested.unl.edu/herbicide-stewardship-and-drift-preven...
Katarzyna Müller (asker) Mar 18, 2016:
So I asked the client and they can't answer as they themselves want to find out what is written in Spanish... I'll go with the windbreak, I think it may have something to do with the spraying in windy weather, though I think stakes are a really good guess too! It's a pity we'll never know what the author meant. Thank you all for your contributions!
philgoddard Mar 18, 2016:
Do you mean a footnote? If so, what does the text itself say?
Katarzyna Müller (asker) Mar 17, 2016:
this was written by a native Spaniard
Taña Dalglish Mar 17, 2016:
I agree with Pat. Please ignore my suggestion! Do you think it is "turbinas de viento"? http://es.123rf.com/photo_10379396_las-turbinas-de-viento-en... (and a poor translation from another language)?
Katarzyna Müller (asker) Mar 17, 2016:
honestly I have no more context, it's a note to a herbicide study and only appears once
patinba Mar 17, 2016:
More context You must have something more you could give us. Is the topic sunflower growing, or could it have to do with wind power? Do you think it is a translation from another language? I ask because the answers so far do not make much sense.

windbreak

I can't provide any evidence for this - it just fits the context. And plancha means a sheet or panel, among other things, so I think it's more likely than "stake".
Peer comment(s):

agree Taña Dalglish : Seems plausible (I just posted an additional link which suggests the sunflowers themselves act as a windbreak). I also did include "plancha" in my explanation/1 conf. Regards. (Ignore my answer as I think yours in more like it).

Thanks!
agree Yvonne Gallagher : makes most sense. They don't want sunflowers to topple over in wind so rather than using individual stakes (time consuming in a field) they use panels etc.
