French term

Représentations visuelles

French to English Marketing Marketing / Market Research Online sale
Ces représentations visuelles n’ont qu’une fonction illustrative..

I understand this refers to the appearance, the way the products look on the website. Can anyone help me with a better way to express this?
TIA

@Asker Those are the type of questions one should ask the client when accepting a translation job.

@BD
Absolutely no details as to the type of product, let alone the target audience.
B D Finch May 4, 2016:
Context? You say that this is about website content and imply that the "représentations visuelles" show the products; however you failed to tell us anything about the intended readership of the translated text. This does matter, because you should use a different register if this is going to be displayed on the website for a general audience of customers, from that you would use if this is for a website designer. Moreover, "représentations visuelles" might possibly include video material. It would be useful to know whether it refers to drawings, graphs, photos, etc.

Why not use the simplest English word: images?

These are the typical, standard phrases in disclaimers about items sold online.
“images are for illustrative purposes only” [about 450,000 google hits returned]
“images are for illustration purposes only” [about 400,000 google hits returned]
Example sentence:

Images are for illustrative purposes only. http://deadprofit.com/terms/ (menswear brand, UK)

All images used are for illustrative purposes only. http://www.barratthomes.co.uk/Footer/Image-disclaimer/ (real estate, UK)

representations/visual representations/pictures?

These representations/visual representations are for illustration purposes only/ are solely for illustration purposes....

This is just what came to mind, there are probably better ways of saying it.

Or just "pictures"
Peer comment(s):

agree Guillaume Brownlie Pacteau : That's it. Depending on what the 'représentations' are of course.

Thanks Verginia :)
agree Margaret Morrison : Agree. for example "Serving suggestion" if on a food pack.

Thanks Starbar :)
agree Yvonne Gallagher : probably just "pictures" will do it

Thanks Gallagy!
disagree Valters Feists : Not clear which one you prefer and/or recommend. "Pictures" seems the simplest, but probably doesn't sound business-like enough; compare with "someone's facebook pictures".

Thanks for disagreeing Valters ;) I don't really have a preference, it's up to Asker to see which one best suits him.

visual aids

This is what I find most often in source texts that I translation to "représentatiosn visuelles"

My guess is the source text did not use "photo" or "image" on purpose, this must be something more general.

See how visual aids are defined, this is general enough to include pictures, maps, tables, charts, diagrams, animated GIFs or even videos:
Note from asker:
Thanks for your input, Didier. It is actually very clear from my context that this refers to pictures (images) of products shoppers view when shopping on the website.
Peer comment(s):

neutral B D Finch : Not in this (ill-defined) context.

disagree Valters Feists : Sorry, graphics is sometimes defined as a broader concept -- "Graphics often combine text, illustration, and color." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics
