French term

visite médicale

French to English Medical Medical: Instruments
Appears in the legal section at the very bottom of an information leaflet destined for nurses entitled "6 règles de bonne pratique pour une administration optimale de la Nutrition Parentérale".

[email protected]"

Are they perhaps referring to the leaflet itself as a "house call"? If so, seems odd it would not be in quotation marks.
TIA for your help.

Discussion

Wendy Streitparth Jul 8, 2016:
Maybe this page will help clarify what kind of visite this is:
http://www.leem.org/thematique/visite-medicale
Sorry - hadn't seen mchd's reference.
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Jul 8, 2016:
I'm going with "promotional services" unless someone can come up with something better.
Thanks for your efforts!
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Jul 8, 2016:
quality of our medical support services is perhaps the underlying idea here?

search for "visite médicale"
Simon Mac Jul 8, 2016:
Is this a leaflet part of a sales presentation? I used to work in the Pharma industry in France (in IT admittedly) and "visite médicale" is also what they euphemistically called sales calls individually and also collectively meaning the sales force, eg to GPs or hospital consultants.
So, if this is a leaflet that's one part of what is in effect a sales call, I could imagine that this could mean "if you have any remarks about this sales call, then contact xyz" or even "if you have any remarks about our sales force, then contact xyz"
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Jul 8, 2016:
You may have jumped to a conclusion too quickly, see mchd's entry below.
philgoddard Jul 8, 2016:
Yes Your Google search gets three hits, all the same document advertising a seminar. Again, nothing to do with visites médicales.
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Jul 8, 2016:
It comes up in a few similar PDFs published by this company. In google search for
"qualité de notre visite médicale" fresenius
Also lots of hits for other companies, so not necessarily a mistake.
philgoddard Jul 8, 2016:
Funnily enough The other incidence of a sentence very like this one is ALSO a mistake. It's the confidentiality rules applying to visitors to a website, again nothing to do with "visites médicales":
https://www.hospira.fr/fr/privacy_policy
Chakib Roula Jul 8, 2016:
Definitely agree with Philgoddard.
philgoddard Jul 8, 2016:
A "visite médicale" is almost always a medical examination for people about to start work with an employer, which is obviously not the case here. This reinforces my view that the French is a mistake.
philgoddard Jul 8, 2016:
It could be a mistake. I found only two instances of this sentence, one of which is here:
http://sfh.hematologie.net/hematolo/UserFiles/File/PDF/Broch...
It has nothing to do with medical visits, but is an application for a research grant. The text appears to have been cut and pasted in error, and I wonder if that's the case here.
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Jul 8, 2016:
'medical services publications' is that perhaps meant here?
Chakib Roula Jul 8, 2016:
I would think of a "medical"audit.

detailing/product information and support

La visite médicale, as an activity, in often called detailing, especially in the US. Although it was traditionally a face-to-face meeting with a doctor, pharmacist or nurse, there's now also e-detailing (visite médicale à distance) ,which might be what's going on in your case.
My alternative suggestion of product information and support is based on an idea that the client might prefer to be highlighting the provision of info and education rather than a promotional intent, and based on this from their website "We provide product information and support by telephone, email or on site from your local Fresenius Kabi Representative" http://www.specials.fresenius-kabi.com/quality/more-than-jus...

A couple of refs for visite médicale/detailing:

Note from asker:
Indeed, lots of references to "visite médicale" as reps from pharma companies visiting physicians.
French is the original language of this document, but the term may indeed be specific to Fresenius.
