What does (PA) stand for here, and do I simply translate with dimethyl sulfoxide (PA)? Thanks!

dimethyl sulphoxide (AR) [sulfoxide for the US]
As Juan correctly states "PA = para análisis", the equivalent of which is "AR = analtyical reagent".

PA could stand for lots of things. In the present contest there is a case for suggesting it stands for "pro analysi". Many chemicals are sold as puriss (or purim) p.a. which means that they have a certificate of purity. If a reaction does not work, checking the purity of compounds is one possibility

: I find this hard to understand. It's just a jumble of words, and I don't see what you mean by "two proposals".

Dimethyl sulfoxide (analytical grade)
PA means in Spanish speaking countries, "Para Análisis", Quality: for analysis (very pure), "analytical grade" is correct, but not sure if there is a standard about it
Example sentence:
Analytical Grade Reagents.A range of high purity reagents suitable for a variety of analytical techniques.

: You're 90% of the way there. We say "analytical reagent grade ethanol", for example, or "AR grade ethanol", and write it as "Ethanol (AR)"

dimetil sulfoxido (por analysis)
After my last confusion, I did some searching and found this blog reference that triggered recollection of a way to name a compound's state of analysis that was used some 40 years ago in Mexico PA=por analysis
