comme particularité

French to English Art/Literary Archaeology ancient art
Hello again!
DOC: 1907 Museum catalog of ancient Egyptian mirrors. Catalog entry.
CONTEXT: 44017. Mirror. -- Bronze and wood. [....]
LITERAL: Note, however, as a distinctive feature, a rib or arris, not on the sides, but on the front and back of the plant stem.
ISSUE: I am confused about the wording/placement of the phrase and so I'm not sure of the meaning or if it has a particular nuance. Does it just mean: However, the fact that a rib or arris is seen on the front and back of the plant stem instead of on the sides is a distinctive feature?
DISCLOSURE: I did submit my query to WordReference but received no satisfactory answer except the literal was fine from one member.
Thank you in advance!

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

cchat Mar 18, 2017:
plant stem? I would think, as you are describing a mirror made of bronze and wood, that tige végétal refers here to the wooden handle of the mirror.

one particular feature

A "particularité is something special, something which stands out,a distinctive feature. In your context, I think you could indicate "one particular feature", etc.

You suggest something along these lines yourself and I see nothing in your original which suggests any other meaning.

What is striking about this particular feature, is that the "côte ou arrête" is not on the side, but on the front. It is this frontal position that makes it remarkable.

And the back, too, of course, rather than on either side.

neutral B D Finch : Why not "a distinctive feature", as suggested by the Asker and used, above, by yourself?
