Hi,
I'm translation an Odor Impact Study for an Activated Sludge Plant and I'm having trouble with the term "alcances odorantes". I guess it means how far the odors reach the premises close to them. But "reaches" sounds strange to me in the plural form.
Can anyone suggest something better?

= i.e., how far the orders extend. That's just off the top of my head. I'll see if I can think of anything else…

IMHO, "diffusion" refers to the emanation/spread of the odours, whereas "extent" refers to how far away they are perceived and how strong they are.

IMHO, "diffusion" refers to the emanation/spread of the odours, whereas "extent" refers to how far away they are perceived and how strong they are.
Example sentence:
a scheme to monitor the extent of the odours and to detect when a problem has arisen or is likely to occur

I guess that's the best answer I found for you. The pdf under the search "odours of a sludge plant" gave me a good number of pdfs in case you would like to go deeper on them. So, this one is valid but of course, there may be other options you consider better.
Example sentence:
The substances responsible for the diffusion of odors into the atmosphere in the vicinity of treatment plants are generally gaseous inorganic products or highly volatile organic compounds.

I think you had it "how far the odors the odors reach the premises close to them." diffusion depends on wind to reach the surroundings and extend is does not say how far away from the plant you can smell it. Just as a suggestion.
