This appears in the following passage taken from an article about the Italian artist and scupltor Nane Zavagno. I imagine that "producono suggestioni" might be "give rise to/produce impressions (or sensations)", but I don't see where "ancestrali" fits in or what "pulsionali" means. Can anyone help out?
Tuttavia va detto che i lavori di Zavagno non sono mai materializzazione di puri concetti astratti quanto piuttosto forme “ben temperate” di energia vitale. A loro fondamento ci sono sì figure geometriche primarie e però la loro articolazione o il loro accostamento (spesso è riconoscibile la dialettica tra un elemento verticale-maschile e di un elemento curvilineo-femminile) producono suggestioni ancestrali o pulsionali che superano lo stesso dato geometrico: la materia costitutiva delle opere, ovvero la rete metallica, assume la funzione di elemento regolatore, di volta in volta caricando la percezione primaria di sensibilità quasi tattile o raffreddando la suggestione simbolica e metaforica.
Tuttavia va detto che i lavori di Zavagno non sono mai materializzazione di puri concetti astratti quanto piuttosto forme “ben temperate” di energia vitale. I think the term ancestral is exactly what the critic wants to say and I see no reaon to change or overtranslate it. The simple geometric forms have deeper layers of meaning which are reminiscent of ancestral symbolism/forms. In art and sculpture ancestral forms and their stylized geometrical lines are often referenced or evoked see an example here

I'd say 'suggestioni' here is used like its synonym 'allusioni' which can be used for something which refers, alludes to something else.

I agree with colleagues that pulsionali means generative energy/force primordial force, sensual/libidinous energy-take your pick!

You could also translate pulsazioni quite literally as 'pulsations'-the whole concept seems akin to the generative life force typical of both oriental and ancient Greek philosophy...

I wouldn't worry about being too loyal to the Italian with these kinds of overwrought passages. "Suggests an ancestral rhythm" could also work, maybe, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. (I'm having trouble figuring out if the subject of the sentence is singular or plural. I'd go with singular in English).
