French term

fixité

French to English Art/Literary Archaeology ancient art
Hi again!
DOC: 1907 Museum catalog of ancient Egyptian mirrors. Catalog entry.
CONTEXT: 44098. Ornement de base de manche de miroir. - Or. - Haut. 0 m. 033 mill., poids 1 gr. 50. - Dahshoûr, fouilles de M. de Morgan, 1894 (pl. XXII). This is the end of the entry.
ATTEMPT: It is cut from gold leaf measuring a tiny fraction of a millimeter thick and is consequently liable to give way or break.
ISSUE: My author uses this term, which translates as "instability" rather well in the few instances it's used, is not working here, I'm not very enthused about "fixity" per the dictionaries.
Thank you in advance for any better ideas!

rigidity

As an EN speaker, if talking about the mirror, this is the first thing I'd think of saying. Don't know whether it's the same thing.
Peer comment(s):

agree Christopher Crockett : Seems right. "It is cut from a leaf of gold which measures only a fraction of a mm. and, thus, has no rigidity."
