First part. Sorry Neil and everyone. The first part refers to "Sodio".

"Sodio: Estará siempre presente como impureza, su nivel de detección es muy bajo y sirve como indicador del grado de contaminación o tránsitos en caldera, excepto en los grupos con tratamiento con fosfato y sosa."

Hi Anaviva Can you tell us what the first part of the sentence refers to "Estará siempre presente como impureza..."?
In my mind the sentence suggests that "tránsitos en [la] caldera" is a concrete noun (as opposed to an abstract one, e.g., "transitions/transits") and the level of "tránsitos en [la] caldera" is indicated by whatever is "siempre presente como impureza". So that could be vital info. TIA

= a transition or change. In this case, by stuff passing through the boiler...

neutral Neil Ashby : The use of "en" in the source text seems to imply "tránsitos" is a concrete noun rather than an abstract one. It would be good to know what "Estará siempre presente como impureza"

cycles [or phase changes]

Well in that case it could apply to "transitions", but I think "phase changes" is more appropriate or better still "cycles". The level of sodium in the boiler is indicative of how many [phase change] cycles it has completed...that seems to be what it is saying.

But I'm not sure, I find it a bit confusing as "tránsitos EN [la] caldera" implies a concrete noun - could it be "tránsitos DE caldera"? That would make more sense.

Each time the boiler boils some water (which goes through a phase change when it turns into steam) the sodium conc. in the boiler increases. Therefore the level of sodium is an indicator of how many times water has been converted into steam, i.e. how many cycles the boiler has completed.

neutral neilmac : I think they'd have used "ciclos" if that was what they meant....
