Portuguese term

Posto sanitário

Portuguese to English Medical Medical: Health Care
Escola primária – 1ª à 4ª classe
Ciclo 5º e 6º ano
Liceu 7º ao 9º ano
Posto sanitário
Centro de saúde

I would normally just say a posto sanitário was a health centre, but here I cannot.

Health inspection office?
Clinic?

Discussion

@Douglas More context could be useful... Is this some kind of educational institution? Where?
Mario Freitas Sep 1, 2017:
In Brazil, the Vigilância Sanitária is actually an inspection agency, so surveillance is correct. But, as I said, in Pt-Pt it seems the term "sanitário" is used for health services, which you'd never see in Brazil. That's why I made the confusion.
But I'm leaving my suggestion anyway, since a Bazilian person may search this term in the future, and there will be something applicable to Pt-Br then.
Lara Barnett Sep 1, 2017:
Equivalent So this is something like a "health watchdog" or a "health regulation authority". ? UK English does not use "surveillance" in this area. Surveillance is mainly used for criminal, police or traffic monitoring, or in a smaller context. It would be understood but risks sounding a bit odd to some.
Oliver Simões Sep 1, 2017:
Same meaning This article shows that "posto de saúde" and "posto sanitário" are the same thing, at least from a Cape Verdean perspective.
Mario Freitas Sep 1, 2017:
... however However, I realize I'm thinking of Brazil, and Douglas is translating to Pt-Pt. So whatever I said may be all incorrect for his purposes.
Mario Freitas Sep 1, 2017:
@ Lara, That's what I figured. The "Vigilância Sanitária" calls its remote units (in small towns) "posto sanitário".
Lara Barnett Aug 31, 2017:
@ Mario Is this an office that monitors the health services are running as they should.?
Mario Freitas Aug 31, 2017:
It's not a health center or clinic. It's an office of a health surveillance authority. There are no doctors, nurses or emergency rooms here. People are making confusion with "Posto de Saúde", which is a very different thing.
Lara Barnett Aug 31, 2017:
Is it walk in? "walk in" or "drop in" health center ?
Mario Freitas Aug 31, 2017:
Office This is an office or a remote unit of the federal/state sanitary surveillance authority.
Here's an example: http://www.angop.ao/angola/pt_pt/noticias/sociedade/2014/10/...
Katarina Peters Aug 31, 2017:
Lavatory? Washrooms? Supposedly, medical services are part of the health centre... so...
Care centre? Health facility? ...
Jennifer Byers Aug 31, 2017:
@Clinic Not sure of the wider context but I'd go with clinic, or day clinic (depending on context, again).

School Health Surveillance

Acredito que se for relacionado à escola, possa ser: SCHOOL HEALTH SURVEILLANCE CENTER e, mais generalizado, como: PUBLIC HEALTH SURVEILLANCE CENTER, conforme os links abaixo:

health clinic / center / facility

Another suggestion. This term is somewhat vague. It could translate as clinic, center or facility, depending on the context.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Muriel Vasconcellos : Not vague, really. The official WHO translation is 'health post'. Your suggestions refer to larger establishments.

health center / health station

A health center that is generally part of a network of clinics which provides healthcare services to people in a specific area / location.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Oliver Simões : A resposta "health center" já foi dada anteriormente!

neutral Muriel Vasconcellos : A 'health center' is larger than a 'health post', according to WHO terminology.

Health Surveillance Office / Sanitary Surveillance Office

A "posto sanitário" is a unit (office) of the Sanitary Surveillance, a federal or state authority responsible for inspecting the sanitary conditions of public venues.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Muriel Vasconcellos : Sorry Mário, the sanctified WHO translation of "posto de saúde" and "posto sanitário" is 'health post'.

That' the same mistake everyone made, Muriel. It's NOT a "posto de saúde". It's a "posto sanitário". There are no doctors there; only sanitation inspectors.
