English term

gavage

English to Swedish Medical Medical (general) Djurfrsk
"An increased incidence of tumors was seen in mice and rats exposed to toluene diisocyanate by gavage."

gavage

"Sondmatning" implies nutrients. Toluene diisocyanate is not a nutrient. Thus the more general word, "gavage", should be used, and is used for introducing toxic substances via a tube into the stomach. Just as one does not call executing somebody by lethal injection "intravenous feeding".
Peer comment(s):

neutral Birgitta G (X) : Administration of a substance to an animal through a stomach tube could be called either gavage or peroral administration. Own experience.
