In Spain for example, all horses have to have a "guía" and it's just a document, not a manual or guidelines. It certifies the ownership of the horse and has to be updated and modified by a vet when a horse is sold. Every time a horse needs to travel, the owner needs to get a "guía de transporte which is just an official form/permit enabling travel.

: This sounds right to me. I've heard livestock owners are required to have a kind of "permit" to move animals off their property here in Mexico too, to prove they are legal owners. Perhaps "livestock movement permit" or "livestock waybill?

Thanks, Robert! I thought of permit but it seemed to go better with movement than ownership. More than one way to say this, I'm sure.

: Yes, this sounds right to me, too. This is exactly what it is, in Uruguay. You need to have this "guía" to move any livestock around within the country, in order to prove ownership.
