Portuguese term

tem sua diversidade mantida por amostras norte-americanas

Portuguese to English Science Livestock / Animal Husbandry Scientific paper
I've translated this as "seven have their diversity maintained by North American samples," but not sure if it's correct.

Thanks for your help!

Could it be *in* NA samples? That would make more sense to me.

@All I agree with Sarah's translation too. It captures the meaning and is more in line with the voice used. Talking of which, the use of the active and passive voice is not set in stone. There are cases in which one is preferable to the other. Grammarly.com states that in scientific contexts, the passive voice is better: https://www.grammarly.com/blog/passive-voice/ Obviously, the active voice is not wrong, just another way of expressing the idea.

@ Gilmar and Claus I agree it's correct, but considering euphony in English, I've always learned the active voice is preferrable and we should avoid the passive voice, above all when the subject becomes an inanimate object such as "samples". So i suggested and alternative I thought would sound more natural (active voice).

I agree.

You got it right, Sarah. .

maintain/keep their diversity using North-American samples

Declined
I wouldn't use this passive format "have their diversity maintained" in English. It's not incorrect, but not natural or euphonic either. English speakers prefer the active voice.
