Spanish term

sábana fantasma

Spanish to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion fitted sheets
Hi!

I've spent an hour trying to find a decent translation of 'sábana fantasma' but it seems that this kind of sheet doesn't exist outside Spain. The term appears in a list but I've provided a definition from another website.

I would appreciate your opinions. I've thought of safety (fitted) sheet, T-shirt sheet, sleeping bag sheet and pyjama sheet but they don't convince me.

Thank you!

@Taña That's a good idea but I delivered the translation this morning. I'll bear it mind for next time ;-)
Taña Dalglish Oct 19, 2018:
@ Helena I just had another idea, and playing off your own suggestion, to use "Snug fit Sheet" (or SnugFit sheet). HTH.
Helena Chavarria (asker) Oct 19, 2018:
@Muriel As I mentioned at the beginning, when I asked my question I had already spent over an hour trying to find an equivalent product in an English-speaking country.

The sheet is definitely a fitted bottom sheet, though I don't know how anyone can sleep like that. It looks and sounds awful!

Taña Dalglish Oct 19, 2018:
@ Muriel https://www.thesleepstore.com.au/shop/safety/safe-position/s... (this is the Australian site where "SnugSheet" is a TM), but the description says: "SnugSheet™ combines a standard single bed sized, stretchy fitted base sheet with a sewn in baby sleeping bag (or gro bag) portion that includes a zip up bodice. SnugSheet™ replaces both the normal sheets (top and bottom) on a bed. It fits over the mattress just like a normal fitted sheet. HTH!
Muriel Vasconcellos Oct 19, 2018:
Fitted? Does it actually go around the mattress like a fitted sheet? I didn't get that impression.
Helena Chavarria (asker) Oct 19, 2018:
@Taña In the end I used 'fitted snug sheet'. Taña's suggestion was the nearest so I would appreciate it if she could provide it as an answer so then I can give her the points.

Thank you everyone for your help.

@Charles Agree. The description of the thing sounded like a straitjacket to me when I first read it.
Marie Wilson Oct 17, 2018:
@Helena This one does but yours might be a different model:https://www.sabanafantasma.com/la-sábana-fantasma/blog-sában...
La sábana fantasma tiene una pequeña cremallera, que se abre para colocar al niño en el lugar deseado de la cama.
Charles Davis Oct 17, 2018:
Snug sheet seems to be generic in NZ "Snug sheets and restraints
To date we haven’t found a snug sheet or restraint which is successful in allowing full movement and successful sleep whilst still stopping a toddler from jumping from their cot. Some have broken, ripped or just frustrated the toddler."
https://babysleepconsultant.co.nz/blogs/news/moving-your-tod...

I think you'd have to be careful with the word "restraint" in relation to beds: sounds a bit S&M.
Helena Chavarria (asker) Oct 17, 2018:
@Marie I also thought of 'zip-up fitted bottom sheet' but I don't know if my sheet has a zip. It's not on the website.
Helena Chavarria (asker) Oct 17, 2018:
@Taña Yes, I saw that and thought that it sounded quite good. Thank you for your help :-)
Marie Wilson Oct 17, 2018:
How about zipper swaddle sheet, or something on those lines. I think you'll have to make something up as other translations out there are "spook sheet" and "the original safety blanket."
Taña Dalglish Oct 17, 2018:
@ Helena I found this on an Australian site:
It is similar to this? https://www.thesleepstore.com.au/shop/safety/safe-position/s... (here it is called a SnugSheetTM). New Zealand: https://www.kiwifamilies.co.nz/reviews/snug-sheet/
Ana Vozone Oct 17, 2018:
I have found several examples for babies and adults using the term "wrapper" in my search.
Helena Chavarria (asker) Oct 17, 2018:
From what I've seen, the sheets are also used by elderly people to stop them from falling out of bed.

Helena Chavarria (asker) Oct 17, 2018:
Thank you, Barbara I might end up having to do that, though my translation is for a website and I'm thinking of SEO. If this kind of sheet exists, it would be nice to know what they're called in English.
Barbara Cochran, MFA Oct 17, 2018:
I Would Leave It In The Original Spanish ...because it looks like it's the name of a product.

fitted snug sheet

I found this on an Australian site & per discussion entry:
It is similar to this. https://www.thesleepstore.com.au/shop/safety/safe-position/s... (here it is called a SnugSheetTM).
New Zealand: https://www.kiwifamilies.co.nz/reviews/snug-sheet/

(fitted) snug sheet (generic), As Charles stated in his entry.

Helena: I don't really deserve the points. It was all in the way of discussion and brainstorming with other colleagues to find an appropriate fit, but I thank you. Regards.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I wanted a term that sounded friendly. I had seen SnugSheet but I was a bit concerned about being accused of using a trademark. I use the ProZ term search every day and I wanted to close my question with the term I used, though many people might not agree with my choice ;-) Thank you for your help, Taña! "

sleep sack (Sábana Fantasma)

Here's a picture of an adult in a Sleepsack (copyright):

"Fantasma" seems to be a copyright name as well, so you could add the Spanish name in parens.

There's are a couple of problems with this answer: Most of these products are advertised for adults as sleeping bag liners. When it comes to children, a search "child sleep sack sheet" shows wearable items. We simply don't have an equivalent in English-speaking countries.

Oops! I have no idea how "there's a couple of ..." got in there. It must have been a false start in the singular.
