Spanish term

reivindicación ciudadana

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy Teaching approaches in pluricultural contexts
From an article about different types of citizenship in different countries in relation to teaching.I know what this means, but can't think of a decent way to express it in English.

"Además de observarse correlaciones significativas entre ciudadanía y competencia pluricultural, la reivindicación ciudadana independiente del poder político presenta una importancia ligeramente mayor en el caso español."

Civil rights is usually "derechos civiles", so I hadn't considered that, as the article is mainly about education in different countries, but it's an interesting point and I'll take it into account, cheers.

Yes, you have a point:)
Note from asker:
"Demands" might seem a bit bolshie to some readers because the context is more about education than placard waving, but it's always an option, thanks :)
