French term

Diplômé en .....

French to English Medical General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Qualifications printed on doctor\'s letter (Tunisian)
At the top of letter it says
Diplômé en Nutrition de l'obésité
Diplômé en Entretien motivationnel
Diplômé en Tabacologie
Diplômé en Diabétologie

Is it likely that a doctor would have a Degree in all four specialisms?

Or should I translated 'Specialist in .....' for each?

Many thanks

Sarah Verger (asker) Mar 9, 2019:
Diplômé en Thank you to everyone who replied with such helpful suggestions and information re my question!!
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Mar 8, 2019:
These are likely to be a series of DU/DIU (diplôme (inter)universitaire) professional diplomas which are generally post-grad level diplomas. It is unlikely they are degrees (bachelor's, masters, doctorates); if they were, it would have been indicated. For a UK readership, using the term "degree" would be wrong for anything other than a degree.
Batiste Foisy Mar 8, 2019:
If the guy wrote "diplômé" he means that he has a "diplôme", that he is certified in some capacity. Can you contact him and ask what specific grades he is referring to? That's probably your answer.
Sue Davis Mar 8, 2019:
I think it is unlikely that there is a degree course in eg Tabacologie, though can't be sure
Sarah Verger (asker) Mar 8, 2019:
Diplômé en Thank you Sue, I think 'PG Diploma in' sounds better than 'Degree in'. I hope I am not doing the guy down.
Sue Davis Mar 8, 2019:
I think it may refer to postgraduate diploma courses, not 100% sure though

PG Diploma

There seem to be a range of courses here, some of which count as CPD, therefore presumably PG

agree José Patrício : A postgraduate diploma (PgD, PgDip, PGDip, PG Dip., PGD, Dipl. PG, PDE) is a postgraduate qualification awarded after a university degree. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postgraduate_diploma

Thanks!
agree philgoddard : I wouldn't abbreviate it, though. Otherwise the reader has to pause for a moment and work out what it means.

Certified in...

This is how we would say it in the US. "Diploma" here is almost universally reserved for the fundamental milestones of education (high school diploma, university diploma [BA/BS]). Shorter courses that do not result in a BA/BS, master's degree, doctoral degree or equivalent (e.g. MD/medicine, JD/law) are usually called certifications, certificate programs or the like.

For instance: Graduate Certificates https://www.extension.harvard.edu/academics/graduate-certifi...

Medical/healthcare certification programs: https://study.com/article_directory/q_p/page/Medical and Hea...

Certification programs through which doctors and other healthcare professionals can become certified in medical acupuncture: http://www.dabma.org/programs.asp

Degree in

'Diplômé en...' seeming pretty general, I think that just 'Degree in...' would do the trick
