I translated the journal Гидротехническое Строительство for decades and the given terms were/are commonplace. E.g., гидроузл is a hydropower complex not "waterworks," "... напорных фронтов" is all water-retaining structures under pressure, i.e., the pressure -bearing face, upstream face, the dam itself.
