English term

lobby feed

English to French Tech/Engineering Music Audio mixers
Audio mixers manual:

Aux Send Level Control -
Creates a post master level control mix of input channels to send to alternate applications including assisted listening systems, lobby feeds, artist/speaker monitor systems.

Other example with "lobby" :
This output is intended to feed assisted hearing or lobby audio systems or any other system requiring a summed LCR output.

Discussion

Tony M Apr 11, 2020:
@ Asker That extra context only serves to confirm my confidence in my suggestion, which in the light of that information I would have given a confidence level of '5'.
Charlotte Métais (asker) Apr 10, 2020:
Answer to context Thank you very much for the answers so far.
Unfortunately, there's not much context to add, it's an audio mixer owner's manual, describing the buttons. Nothing more... Here's a last paragraph with the term "lobby".

Auxiliary Output Level Control
This knob adjusts the mixed auxiliary output levels of the mixer and has a control has a range of from cut-off to +10dB of gain above unity. This output is intended to feed foldback systems (artist/presenter monitor system), assisted hearing or lobby audio systems where a mix balance of other than the main Left - Center - Mono output is desired.

Thanks again!

@ Christophe To continue my reply to your response to my peer comment: there are enough clues in the source text (artist/speaker, assisted listening, alternate applications) to strongly imply this is a situation involving some kind of auditorium, and as such, the 'lobby' will always be some kind of public reception area, concourse, etc. I'd say they are trying to talk in very general terms, presumably marketing to a very wide range of venues, hence the rather non-committal language.
But as I said, the 'lobby' will be as distinct from the 'hall/auditorium' etc., so I don't believe 'salle' is appropriate here — especially as the term may well be needed elsewhere in the text.
I did try to cover these very points in my answer, explaining to Asker why more context would make it easier to find the right terms — without wanting to complicate things unduly by seeking to discuss every conceivable option!
Nicolas Gambardella Apr 10, 2020:

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : It's not the actual sound system itself, but just the label on an outgoing signal feed destined for that location. And 'lobby' is not 'salle' — it actually opposes 'salle' (e.g. in a typical theatrical context: auditorium vs. foyer) / Pls see discussion

I agree with you that "départ" is the exact term for "feed", but "lobby", given the lack of context, could refer to something other than a theatre, e.g. a hotel, restaurant or other environment, couldn't it?

départ (vers) foyer

Context is lacking: by the other temrs, it seems we may guess this is some kind of theatre, perhaps, in which case, the 'lobby' is the 'foyer'; however, in other contexts, like a hotel, for example, it might be 'hall', 'entrée', etc.

Feed here clearl refers to an outgoing signal feed, for which the usual term is a 'départ' — it probably isn't necessary to add 'signal' in FR, as it is as implicit here as in EN.
