FÓRMULA AGUDA

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals
I'm translating a document from Colombia. Its title is "Formulación de Medicamentos,"
which I have translated as "Medication Prescriptions." There are several medications listed
along with Instructions (e.g., "Take one a day."), Quantity, and Unit (e.g., 1 box).
At the top of the list is the heading FÓRMULA AGUDA.

I know that "Aguda" usually means "Acute," but I don't know what it means here.

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Formulación In the file I'm translating, there is not only "formulación de medicamentos" but also FORMULACIÓN DE PROCEDIMIENTOS. Listed under that I find (890474) NEUROLOGIA ADULTOS INTERCONSULTA, Cantidad 1 (890466) MEDICINA INTERNA INTERCONSULTA, Cantidad 1 and GAMAGRAFIA PULMONAR (PERFUSION) Cantidad 1. There isn't any page with a Medical History. The patient is seeing various doctors, who order blood tests for glycemia and hypothyroidism, advise him to see an endocrinologist and pulmonologist, and prescribe drugs, including homeopathic ones. Even a top neurologist has scribbled, literally, down information applicable to the patient's health problems. It seems that the patient has a lot of maladies and is visiting a lot of doctors for help.

Pharmaceutical formulation, in pharmaceutics, is the process in which different chemical substances, including the active drug, are combined to produce a final medicinal product. The word formulation is often used in a way that includes dosage form.

No, it doesn't mean coming up with new combinations of substances - it can also mean the ingredients of an existing drug.

Formulation in the pharmaceutical industry Formulation concerns coming up with a new combination of substances to be used as a drug. But the drugs listed in this document (e.g., Hydrochlorothiazide and Amlodipine) already exist. A new drug isn't being developed. That's why I translated "Formulación" as "Prescriptions."

Quite right, Phil! Here http://www.saludcapital.gov.co/sitios/SectorBelleza/Galera d... in Colombia they distinguish between formulación and prescripción. In this document, they are prohibiting beauticians from making up and preparing their own formulas to cure health problems.
Depending on the context, "fórmula aguda" in this query may be referring to formulas for acute cases.

Perhaps if you posted more context, and told us what for instance the drugs you mentioned particularly, Hydrochlorothiazide and Amlodipine, what condition(s) were being treated? Phil may have a point, in that "it doesn't mean coming up with new combinations of substances - it can also mean the ingredients of an existing drug", but "higher or lower amounts", but this is a guessing game, Carol without sufficient context!
