Tribunal de Conducta

A text about prison reforms in Argentina in the early 2oth C:
Según afirma Luciano, con la dirección de Amaya, la principal prisión cordobesa logró cierta consolidación como área específica e independiente de la Policía y se implementaron una “…serie de modificaciones normativas en torno a los deberes y atribuciones de ciertos funcionarios, con la sanción de un nuevo reglamento…y la creación de nuevas secciones muy vinculadas con los principios del Positivismo Criminológico: Tribunal de Conducta, Patronato de Liberados e Instituto Criminológico de Córdoba”.

I imagine it has to do with getting out early for good behavior? does that seem right? Is there a name for the body that makes those decisions in English?

(Prison) Parole Board works well I think.
AllegroTrans Jun 4, 2020:
@bigedsenior I'm not sure you can simply rule out tribunal in that way. The source word is "tribunal". I feel sure the asker could do some of her own research on this.
bigedsenior Jun 4, 2020:
I agree -"Parole Board". There are other terms used such as Prisoner Review Board (OH, KS & West. Aus); AZ uses Board of Executive Clemency.

One ref, on Tribunal de Conduacta, a pdf of 244 pages, was from Chile and it is fairly recent , so it could be vastly different than something from Arg. over a 100 yrs ago. One thing is clear. It is not a Tribunal in the legal sense, because its powers do not come from the judiciary, but the laws controlling police (Gendarmeríe) powers. It interesting that Chile uses the French for police.

AllegroTrans Jun 4, 2020:
In England & Wales The body making decisions on early release from prison is the Parole Board

Several other EN-spkg countries use the same name

It seems that at that time in Argentina the "Tribunal" was committee of prison authorities who classified prisoners according to their behaviour, with punishments and rewards. It would not be right to call it a parole board, because the granting of parole was a court prerrogative.
