Spanish term

abrir la ventana

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Once again, an expression with 'ventana' in the book I am translating (from European Spanish to UK English).

This time it is 'abrir la ventana a':

- "(...) grupos de discusión, fórums online, viajes de estudios y lecturas. Me abrieron la ventana a ver las múltiples formas en las que podemos aprender.
- "nos abren la ventana a conocer a Aquel que tiene el poder de transformarnos y lo hace"
- "Esto nos abre una ventana para saber en qué proceso de su desarrollo están"

I am sure there is no one-size-fits-all approach here, but I just want to make sure that I have understood it correctly. My interpretation would be something like "opens our/my eyes" or "helps us understand".

My instant thought was "opens our eyes".

open the door

One possibility:

open the door to sth
to make something possible
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/open-the...

Example sentence:

... it opened the door for me to see all the different avenues physical fitness really has to offer.

The program opened the door for me to see a little light in my future and when I graduated,

Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Rebecca may need to find other translations to avoid repetition. "Allows" is another option.

Thanks, Phil, true. Allows, as you said, or "gives us the opportunity to" could fit.

put me on the right track/help to understand or see

It could certainly have several translations.
In your sentences I see a precise purpose, so I would chose one of the above.

I see "open the door" as a new oportunity offered to you, rather than something that helps you to better see or understand a situation.

introduce s/o to

A simple translation could be as follows:

"They introduced me to the many ways we can learn."

Other options are also possible, like those already posted above or, for example:

"They helped me discover several ways in which we can learn."

Or, if you want to retain "open", you might go for something like this:

"They opened my eyes to the many ways in which learning is possible."

Really, as a native speaker, I find myself spoilt for choice in terms of the many ways to render the notion.

open mind

Tener una mente abierta es muy importante para nuestro bienestar, conseguir cosas nuevas y para llevarnos bien con los que nos rodean. La “apertura mental” es uno de los 5 grandes rasgos de la personalidad y si lo tienes, te destacarás por ser tolerante, flexible y adaptable a los cambios.

It should be "opened a window on". Inadvertently missed out the article
