German term

Die *Durchstarter*

German to English Marketing Marketing / Market Research
Titel eines Marketing-Dokuments.

Im Dokument geht es um eine Gruppe von Personen, die beruflich neu durchstarten sollen. Ich tue mich schwer mit der Übersetzung des Titels.

Discussion

Birgit Gläser Nov 24, 2020:
Mit Veronika Hört sich ohne weiteren Kontext nach einer Art Qualifizierungsmaßnahme an... Career Changer scheint mir da das neutralste zu sein... Durchstarten bedeutet ja normalerweise, dass es eben nicht so gut läuft und man nochmal alles gibt, um endlich erfolgreich zu werden... Der Manager der zum Erzieher wird ist ja eher ein Aussteiger oder entschleunigt sein Leben...
Veronika Neuhold Nov 24, 2020:
"Sollen" oder "wollen" diese Leute durchstarten?

German term (edited): Die Durchstarter

AUT: The relaunchers

'durchstarten' is used for plane take-off and, in the Italian web ref. refers to the noun of relaunches as a 'repackaging' act.

Cross-qualifiers is a translation for 'Quereinsteiger' and is also a hackneyed concept, esp. in Austria. Coincidentally, 'relaunchers is translated as 'Wiedereinsteiger' in the second web ref.

Seems to fit

Being a go-getter and being up for new challenges often go hand in hand but relaunching one's career is not a necessary component of being a Durchstarter.

Compare German and English definitions:

"an aggressively enterprising person"
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/go-getter

"jemand, der es darauf anlegt, möglichst rasch Erfolg zu haben"

agree philgoddard : You need some references, though.

Yes, they're not difficult to find.
neutral Birgit Gläser : The image of a go-getter is a successful person that achieves set goals while Durchstarter refers to someone with lacking/mediocre success who pours his all into a new attempt to either make a business/job successful after all or changes careers completly

Those embarking on a new career

Important to have the words new career in there, given the German word beruflich.

The hotshots

Low as its not clear to me from the text whether this group is actually starting on a new (second) career or 'überhaupt' on their career.

lateral mover

Hiring managers look for people who bring the widest range of personal knowledge and experience about an operation. Contrary to that stale myth we described earlier, the lateral mover’s career is not dead. In fact, when it comes time for promotions, the person who knows the most about different aspects of the business has an edge over the competition and might just be the one who wins the job.
