Estoy traduciendo un documento relacionado con isotermas de adsorción de contaminantes y se habla de "surface area".
En principio lo había traducido como "área de superficie" o "área superficial", sin embargo al referirse al procedimiento BET, me han aconsejado que lo traduzca como "superficie específica".
¿Qué opináis?

For BET isotherms, I think it should be the "specific surface area" - the total surface area of a material per unit of mass.
For example,
"Para todos los materiales de TiO2 sintetizados en el desarrollo de la Tesis, se determinó el área superficial específica por el método de BET mediante la técnica de adsorción de N2 a 77,6 K medido en un analizador de área superficial y sistema poroso ASAP 2020, donde cada muestra fue desgasificada a 373 K por 720 minutos a una presión de 10-4 Pa."

BET isotherms deal with specific surface area, that's how it is, whether the word "specific" is in the source or not (as you've not actually provided any context or even the sentence with the term in I can't really comment on that). This is borne out by the three references I've given from Spanish speaking universities, plus many more out there on the internet.
As I've said, "specific" means "the total surface area of a material per unit of mass", that's what BET isotherms are used to measure. In your case for the adsorption of contaminants, it's related to the porosity of the material doing the adsorbing and is measured per gram. If grams are mentioned, then you can be sure that it should be "specific surface area". Hope this helps.

Well those units - m2/g - are for 'specific surface area' because it's the surface area (m2) for a specific mass (/g) ;@)
You could also just use "área superficial BET" (you'll see there are plenty of hits on the internet for this term), as it will be a direct translation for "BET surface area" as it appears in the source text (thanks for providing that).
-Por otra parte, tambiñen se habla de altas "surface areas" y "porosity"
