Most Otto Cycle Engines are four-stroke engines. They use gasoline, propane or natural gas (methane) as fuels, the oxidizer being air. In order to avoid knock (uncontrolled combustion) they are run lean (more air than needed to burn the fuel). This leads to the formation of NOx and also may lead to incomplete combustion (CO formation). Both are greenhouse gases. Most modern cars have direct fuel injection to prevent the possibility of unburned hydrocarbons.

Knock... więc niby spalanie stukowe... ale coś tu nie działa. Przecież uboga mieszanka sprzyja spalaniu stukowemu. Czy może chodzić o przedwczesny zapłon?

Zbyt uboga mieszanka paliwowo-powietrza (za dużo powietrza, za mało paliwa) również sprzyja spalaniu stukowemu, tak jak za duży kąt wyprzedzenia zapłonu (zapłon następuje dużo za wcześnie przed osiągnięciem górnego maksymalnego położenia tłoka).

Jeszcze ok.

To jest nieprawda. CO w nadmiernych (do zneutralizowania w katalizatorze) ilościach powstaje przy mieszance zbyt bogatej, a nie przy "they are run lean".

Nieprawda. Ani tlenek węgla, ani tlenki azotu ze spalin samochodowych nie zaliczają się do gazów cieplarnianych.

Fantazja. Przyczyną pozostawania niespalonych węglowodorów w spalinach jest zbyt bogata mieszanka, ew. w połączeniu z niewłaściwie rozpylonym paliwem. Wtrysk bezpośredni nie chroni ani przed jednym, ani przed drugim.
Nie przejmuj się. To są jego błędy, nie Twoje :-)
