English term

(a project) - Indefinite article in parentheses

English Other Linguistics Indefinite article in parentheses
Hi, everyone.

I am translating an academic record from a university. There is a subject, after the name of which the word 'project' is put in parentheses.

My quesyion is if an indefinite article is needed before 'project' in parentheses.

E.g. ABC (a project) or ABC (project).

To me, the 'a' redundant.

Thanks!

probably redundant

Would like more context.

It depends on whether you want to make ABC (project) look like a title the "ABC project" or just say ABC is A project.

However if there is e.g. ABC (a) dissertation/thesis also then perhaps "a" as a distinguisher makes it clearer though not necessary either.

So, probably redundant, especially on an academic record

Note from asker:
It is a table with subjects, credits and grades: 1. ABC - 30 - A 2. XYZ (project) - 2 - B Hope this helps.
