Discussion

Toni Castano Aug 18, 2021:
@Kristina Yes, the preposition "a" is wrong here. But the funny thing is that you can find this same mistake a couple of times on the web too :-)
Kristina Love Aug 18, 2021:
@ Toni I'm so glad to hear that. I wasn't comfortable with that "a."
Toni Castano Aug 18, 2021:
The source is faulty It should correctly read: "Resumen de la audiencia de la Junta Conciliatoria". Guatemalan law, some examples can be found on the Internet.

Summary of settlement conference

Found on linguee:

Spanish:
..] un otorgante acerca de cómo procederá la causa y a veces se utiliza junto con la audiencia conciliatoria o de mediación. Ref: courtinformation.ca
English translation:
[...] and an adjudicator about how the case will proceed and is sometimes used along with mediation or a settlement conference.

Definition of "settlement conference" (American Bar Association):

A settlement conference is a meeting in which a judge or magistrate assigned to the case presides over the process. The purpose of the settlement conference is to try to settle a case before the hearing or trial. Settlement conferencing is similar to mediation in that a third party neutral assists the parties in exploring settlement options. Settlement conferences are different from mediation in that settlement conferences are usually shorter and typically have fewer roles for participation of the parties or for consideration of non-legal interests.

I also found several instances of "dispute settlement body" for "junta conciliatoria."

Peer comment(s):

agree Adrian MM. : settlement panel or bench, as in Switzerland, rather than an industrial > AmE labor disputes board.

Thank you, Adrian!
agree Fiona Baillie : I agree, 'settlement conference' also piloted in the UK as a family court dispute resolution mechanism.

agree AllegroTrans : Ooo, naughty boy, you have answered 2x; "Board" sounds a tad heavy, maybe more like a "panel" per Adrian MM

Summary of Conciliation Panel Proceedings

In light of comments made on the advisability of 'board,' perhaps something along these lines might work as well.

Junta Conciliatoria = Conciliation Panel

audiencia = hearing but 'proceedings' may also be useful in this context
