French term

borne de virage aux escadrilles de bombardement

French to English Art/Literary Military / Defense From An Art History Book
Contexte :

Merci Beaucoup,

Barbara

I agree with writeway. Moreover, a few questions are still open . It would be nice to hear from you.

What was the result of your research? What have you found? It could be perfectly ok but it would be nice to see your own translation.

navigation landmark for bomber squadrons

It's merely a ground landmark to be visually recognised by the pilots. The most literal rendition would be "turnpoint landmark" or "turning landmark", but "navigation landmark" is used much more frequently and is essentially the same, as a visual navigation route is just a sequence of legs plotted from one landmark to another.

On the other hand, "point de repère" also means a landmark, so you may want to translate this one as "turnpoint".

agree SafeTex : Yes to "turning point", at least in UK English.

In aviation usage it's usually "turnpoint", "turn point" or "waypoint".
agree tradu-grace : For centuries the cape with its lighthouse has remained an impo rtant landmark for navigation. amigos-magazin.eu Depuis des siècles, le cap et son phare sont un point de repère important pour les navigateurs. amigos-magazin.eu
