Spanish term

el contenido de la cueva,

Non-PRO Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Literature.
I would like to know the best translation of this phrase from Latin American Spanish into American English. Translator colleagues from Spain, feel free to send me your suggestions as well. This is a translation about the story of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves.

Happy New Year to all of you!

Is okay to translate it as "They emptied almost completely the content inside the cave?

Here is the full paragraph for your review:

” a la vez asustada acompañó a Alí Babá a la cueva, cogieron un buen puñado de oro, con el que compraron un centenar de caballos, y los llevaron a la casa de su hermano, allí durante varios días se dedicaron a trasladar el oro de la cueva al interior de la casa, y una vez habían vaciado casi por completo el contenido de la cueva,

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Note from asker:
Thanks Cecilia but is it okay to write the translation in plural? I noticed that "contenido" is written in Singular. Thanks a lot and Happy New Year 2022!

Spanish term (edited): .. y una vez habían vaciado casi por completo el contenido de la cueva

.. and once they had almost cleaned out the den ...

The question needs to be reformulated and added what happened after the event.

This is an instances where both contents - note the plural in English vs. content of the question - and 'por completo' can be omitted, as subsumed by 'cleaned out'. Den also connotes a hiding place for thieves and their loot.

Doesn't mean cleaned up - though clean out is ambiguous in AmE, and 'almost ransacked' doesn't work.
Example sentence:

so we could bomb the hoodlums if they got past the booby traps and came to ransack the Cave.

Thanks Adrian.
